Short-Term Running Goals:

It's been a challenging year so far since Boston 2011.  When I got home from Boston my world changed when I found out I had some pretty severe food allergies. Since being tested I have been focused on building my health back up which has been a long slow process. What a difference it's made and I feel extremely blessed. For years I knew something was wrong and it's amazing to finally know that food can actually be a persons medicine to live a healthy life. 

Long-Term Running Goals:

I'm hoping to start building more miles when I can and be injury free.  Maybe one of these days I'll be fast. Just for now I'm just very happy to be running.

Personal:

Happily married to Marlin Ordway. We've got 4 grown children between the two of us.  It's been fun watching them go through life - making mistakes and picking themselves back up.  I love seeming them happy and succeeding.

Quick day at the gym. We had to leave for Sacramento.  What a morning it's been.  I kept forgetting things at the house. Each time we got into town I'd remember something that I had to have!  After 4 trips back home I made it to the gym.  Marlin didn't say to much when I kept forgetting.  I knew he was frustrated.  Felt much better after the gym!

Got to my sisters today before noon.  Marlin and I went for a run shortly after we got here.  It was alittle warm but very nice.  Ran 7 at a pace that felt pretty good.  It's alittle hilly here so that was nice until towards the end I started to get tired of them.   Came back to her house, ate lunch and hung out the rest of the day.

Great run with my sister this morning.  We left her house and ran 6 miles.  She hadn't been feeling the best the last week so she finshed and went home and I ran 1 more to make it 7 miles.  It's nice running at a lower elevation.

Didn't have much time to run this morning before heading to Napa Valley for Marlin's marathon. Just did a short 4 miles in the early AM at my sisters house.  Sure do like the lower elevation!

Marlin ran his marathon this morning.  It was alot of fun seeing him take off with everyone.  We'd had a great day the day before going to the Expo and then a winery to eat lunch and tour the wine celler.  What a beautiful place we were.  I was really glad my sister and brother in law were there with us.  We'd gotten a hotel room from a friend at home who's family owned a hotel in St. Helena.  It was a great location.  We got Marlin up at the start by 6am and it was raining. Everyone got pretty wet, but it was fun hanging out at the start.  Once the runners took off we drove down to mile 7.  We didn't have to wait to long and here came Marlin.  He didn't expect us.  It was great!  He loved seeing us.  Once he passed by my sister and I wanted to get a run in and we'd dressed in our running clothes so we just took off at mile 7.  We'd kinda of planned it because the day before at the expo the speaker said you could run with a loved one or friend if you wanted to on the course.  I didn't want to interfear with Marlin's race so we'd planned on running after he'd passed by.  There wasn't many places to run in St. Helena so this worked out well.  It was very nice running with all the runners.  I really enjoyed it.  We ran 8 miles and Larry was there to pick up us.   After that we were going to head down to the finish line.  We stopped for coffee at a small shop first.  Once we got to the finish it wasn't to long until Marlin came in.  He was there sooner than we'd expected.  It was AWESOME!!!   He'd had a great race!  Made me want to do it next year!

Went to the gym today to run on the TM.  Knew it'd be a speed workout day.   Warmed up for 1 miles.  I had a hard time getting my HR up on the first 3 intervals. 

Ran 6x1200 w/400 recovery. 1 mile warmup @ 9:22.  7:25 (156 HR) - 7:19 (158) - 7:25 (165) - 7:25 (170) - 7:25 (173) - 7:25 (175).  Finished with 3 miles in Zone 2 and then cooled down.  Ended up running 10.30 miles.

I had to keep it shorter today because I needed to help my sister with her 2 kids.  I needed to pick them up from the sitter as soon as I got done running.  So, I decided to do 7 miles on the TM.

Pretty long run on the TM today.  I knew I wanted to go 10 miles and was glad to do two more, because that's what I really had wanted to do.  Last mile I'd gotten a side ache, but was able to get the last mile in.

Speed workout today.  One mile warmup with 6 interval runs.  Had a hard time getting my HR up there.  Did a few intervals before HR started to get in the 170's.  Did pretty good keeping the HR between Zone 3 & 4.  Still felt tough though. Did a couple miles cool down.   Did some good stretching afterwards.

Much better run today!  Maintained in Zone 2 pretty good.  Felt much better compared to yesterday. Did some weights afterwards and then stretched & core.  I'm liking doing the extra after running. I'm not near as strong as I used to be yrs ago.  Time to get with it and get in better shape.

Ran at the gym today after work.  Tempo run between Zone 2 & 3.  Felt pretty good and easy to maintain today.  Was happy to run at 8:30 pace during the run.

So glad it's Friday.  Ran 7 miles today in Zone 2.  I was alittle tired today.  Probably because it was the end of the week. I've also been trying to do more weights and stetch everyday.  Hope it starts to pay off.  So glad it's warming up!  Will start to run outside soon.

My sister plans on running a marathon next month and has not been running to many miles.  It'll be interesting to see how she does.

Normal run in Zone 2 today.  For some reason it was alittle hard to keep my HR down.  But, overall it was a good run.   Made sure and did some weights and stretched afterwards.  I can sure tell that my hips need to be stretched more.  And, I'm not nearly as flexable as I used to be.  Will just keep working at it.  Good day.

I sure didn't feel like working out today!  I wasn't really tired, just didn't feel like working out.  It was cold this morning and it's been hectic at work.  But, went ahead and did a speed workout.  I warmed up for 1 mile.  The first couple of intervals I had a hard time getting my HR up there.   6 x 1200 x 400 cooldown. .05 incline.  1 mile wu. 7:53 (165), 7:53 ( 168), 7:42 (168), 7:42 (172), 7:35 (177), 7:53 (177). 

I need to work on getting my HR up there more where it should be in the first couple of intervals. I was very glad after the run.  Made sure to stretch afterwards.

Another day at the gym.  I'm looking forward to start running outside soon.  Ended up going 10 miles today.  Felt pretty good.  I should have kept it in Zone 2, but I know I was up around Zone 3 at times. Felt alright tho.  I was happy to be doing a 8:34 mile.  Lowered it down to around a 9 min mile to lower my HR at times.

Went to the gym after work today. After warming up for a mile I started to increase the pace. Had a hard time getting my HR up for the next couple of miles. Stayed in Zone 2. Slowly increased my pace each mile and then kept it at 8:34  min mile for the last couple of miles.  Not to bad of a run.Glad it's getting towards the end of the week. Tomorrows Friday!

Today I just wanted a normal run.  Kept it at 7 miles. Hoping to have a good day tomorrow. I'm thinking about running outside. I knew Marlin and I were going out to eat afterwards so didn't have a  ton of time. Marlin and I have paid quite a bit of attention on calories at restaurants lately. It's amazing how many some things have! I'm not sure if I can eat at Olive Garden again unless I get basic spagetti. Almost everything they have has a ton of fat.  We ended up going to eat chinese. Back to how the run went.  Pretty happy with my HR.  It did get in the upper end of Zone 2 a couple of times, but overall it was pretty low. Average was 148 which is low for me. That HR is in my Zone 1 range.  Things may be starting to pay off.

Looking forward to tomorrow. We do the local co-op in town that we just found out about a month ago.  For $15 we get our fruit and vegs for the week. We actually don't know what we'll get until you pick it up.  They bring the fruits/veggies up from Ariz, Calif & Mexico.  It's so much better than buying it out of the store.   After we pick that up we have a few errands to run. Marlin didn't go fishing this weekend  so he'll be able to do errands with me. Nice!

Long day on the TM today.  It was to windy by the time I was ready to run. Kept my HR at 147 for the first half and then went up alittle at 156 for the second half.   Today my 52yr sister ran her first half marathon in Sacremento!  My other sister is running her first full in a couple of weeks. Hope she does alright.  She doesn't have a ton of time to train.

Not to bad today. I thought it was going to be a hard run today but felt better as time went on. Always want to make it to 8 miles.  But, Marlin was running next to me on the TM and decided to keep going. HR (152) was good overall once I got going. I should have stretched more than I did.  But, I did do a few weights.  Then went down and sat in the sauna.  The instructor from yoga comes in also after her class. I missed it today.  Another reason I ran a couple of extra miles. Hope to make it Wen.

Intervals today.   I glad I don't dread Tue's as much as I used to.  The last week or so I've had a hard time getting my HR up into where it should be.

Ran 7x1200 w/400 recovery. 1 mile warmup. 7:53 (152) - 7:53 (155) - 7:41 (165) - 7:35 (173) - 7:30 (173) - 7:30 (175) - 7:24 (175). Finished with 2 mile cooldown between Zone 1 & 2.

Average HR for the whole run was 158.  I need to do better with getting my HR up earlier!  Hate to say it but I'm enjoying the interval work now.  When I started it was no fun at all.  I'm reading a book out of the library that was written in '79.  Pretty interesting to read what training was like back then.  Who would know running would be where it is now. 

My (younger) sister is getting to run her first marathon in SL in a couple of weeks.  Granted she's a single mom and has two girls.  But, she has not done the needed training!  My other (older) sister just ran her first half marathon. She started running alittle over a year ago.  She did great.   Time was 2:09 hrs.  I'm very proud of her!

TM run today.  I'm not sure if I was dehydrated, but parts of the run seemed harder than it should have been. Glad to get the 8 miles.  Average HR was 153.

Tempo run at the gym.  Better run than yesterday. HR stayed pretty low for the first couple of miles.  Ended up running at 8:34 and then 8:06 to get my HR up into Zone 3 - around 168.  I was happy about that but tired at the end.   I'm glad tomorrows Friday.  Work wasn't to hectic being end of month and having to quota's to meet.  I'll probably take part of tomorrow off since my parents are coming back from Ariz where they spent the winter.  They're flying up so I may have to pick them up at the airport.  It's going to be pretty tempting not to go back to work.  Marlin's going fishing so he won't be here in the afternoon.  Might try and run down by the river.
