Short-Term Running Goals:

It's been a challenging year so far since Boston 2011.  When I got home from Boston my world changed when I found out I had some pretty severe food allergies. Since being tested I have been focused on building my health back up which has been a long slow process. What a difference it's made and I feel extremely blessed. For years I knew something was wrong and it's amazing to finally know that food can actually be a persons medicine to live a healthy life. 

Long-Term Running Goals:

I'm hoping to start building more miles when I can and be injury free.  Maybe one of these days I'll be fast. Just for now I'm just very happy to be running.

Personal:

Happily married to Marlin Ordway. We've got 4 grown children between the two of us.  It's been fun watching them go through life - making mistakes and picking themselves back up.  I love seeming them happy and succeeding.

When I got to the gym today it actually wasn't to busy.  Felt kind of bad for getting there later (8:00am).  There was a girl who got on the TM next to me.  Coudn't really figure out what she was doing.  She'd run like 5 -10 steps and then stop.  This went on for like 30 minutes. I wasn't sure if she was trying to do a speed workout or quite what she was doing. But, I was glad to do an extra mile.  Made sure to stretch afterwards.  I hope everyone has a great day!!!

Ellipitcal at home. Felt like I was in a hurry this morning.  Had a funeral to go to today, so I took a longer lunch at work.  A son of my mom's best friend passed away New Year's Eve. Not quite sure what happened.  Won't know for 6 weeks.  Just extremely sad.

Marlin and I ran a 10k this weekend.  It wasn't a huge race by any means.  But, it was kind of fun.  Not super happy with my time.  It was a race where you made two loops.  The first loop wasn't to bad.  Quite a few people.  The second loop I didn't have anyone in front of me, but did have one person behind me.  My pace wasn't near as good as the first loop.  Ended up running 52.58.

I'm going to try this again....blogging.  Hoping to keep track of what I'm running and get alittle more motivated.  Seems like it's been forever ago since I kept track on here.  Ran 16 miles today and my was not to happy with my pace.  It went anywhere from a 9 - 11 minute mile.  It got so so tough at the end of the run!  I was just glad I got it done!

Thanks Jeff! I want to see it help by actually keeping track with what I'm doing. I've been burnt out and have been trying to do a few other things. But, I'm glad to be back on here.

Ran early this morning around the river.  Made sure I focused on keeping my pace up.  It wasn't to bad.  My pace did vary between 8:25 - 9:15/9:22.  I was just glad that I could actually keep pushing it more than I have been.  Made sure to go down to the gym at lunch to stretch and did Pilates after work.

Well, I don't remember what I ran the last few days.  Need to make sure and get on here to track it!  Decided to go ahead and run outside.  It wasn't bad in the beginning.  But, it got windy towards the end!  Not fun.  But, I made sure to go ahead and do the 10.  I'm glad I did because just as I finished Kathy Hart comes running by. We had a chance to talk because she'd missed the get together at Bills Bike and Run.   It'll be fun to connect with her at Boston!

Had a great time running the Boston 5K.  Marlin and I went down to the race early.  It was a fun thing to do.  Could not really race because there were so many people.  You just had to run what you could and try to avoid others right in front of you.  I felt like I was always trying to dodge people so I got on the grass whenever I could. Once I got back I eventually found Marlin.  It was so great Jeff and Kami had come down to the race.  We were then off to the expo.  Fun morning run!!!

Have to say running in the wind sucks.  Overall todays run was alright. Started at the greenbelt and then headed over to Freeman Park.  Did a few loops there and went back to the river and over to SRL.  I started to get more tired there than anywhere.  Not sure if it was because of the wind or what it was. My training hasn't been very consistance so I'm sure I'm paying the price for it.  On my way home I noticed my right hip started hurting and I could feel it down my leg. Not quite sure what that's all about right now.

Early morning run again. 7 miles around the river (as usual).  On my last lap I switched to my Hoka shoes.  I acutally liked them.  The first time I wore them I didn't like them very well. I'll start to wear them more and see how it goes.

Lunch - ran 3 miles on my lunch.  It was alittle warmer than I'm used to since I run so early.  Glad I stuck it out and did the 3 miles.

Beautiful morning!  It's so great to see more people out early down at the river.

Lunch:  Stairmaster for 20 minutes.  Crosstrained with weights.

After work:  Went and tired out a place called Superfly.  Antigravity yoga.  Parts of it were good and there were parts I didn't like.  There was a time where we flipped over upside down and I that actually made me nauseous and dizzy.  I did not like it at all.  Glad I tried it but not quite sure I'd go back.

After being signed up for the Ogden Marathon I wasn't sure if I was to actually run it. I hadn't done a ton of training and then a few weeks ago it looked like I had to work over the weekend.  About a week and a half ago a co-worker asked if she could switch me weekends. I couldn't beleive it!  Not only had I not been doing long runs, I had stopped worrying about running .  I didn't want to tell her no, because I want to switch her next month to go up for the Ultra in Salmon.  So, now I didn't have to work with not the best marathon training.  I decided to go ahead and run just to see how it'd go.  I heard a friend (Claudia) was running an easy pace so I talked to her about running with her.

I did not sleep at all the night before!  We were in the camp trailer.  Marlin had cancelled the room because I had decided not to run earlier.  I knew I was tired when we were up at the start hanging around the fire pits.

I didn't see Claudia when it was time to start.  I saw Karen Smith and knew she'd be pushing the pace, so I didn't want to run with her.  My goal was just to cover the course at an easy pace.  I did actually see someone else I knew (Idonna) just as the race was starting.  Long story short is we just ended up starting together and kept running.  I think it was around mile 8 we saw Claudia. I was so glad to see her!  All three of us girls ran together until around mile 18 or so.   My feet were killing me!!!  I've never had issues with my shoes or feet hurting.  Claudia was doing great so she kept alittle bit ahead every now and then.  After about mile 20 it was back to me and Idonna.  It was great running with her up until mile 25.  Her son was there to meet her and run in with her.  I was more than happy to cut back (plus, I was tired) so that they could have their time going in.  I stopped and walked for a titch. What a great thing for them to do together.  The only thing that mattered at that point for me was to finsh ahead of the 4:30 pacer. So, I was super shocked when I saw the pacer with a tenth of a mile to go.  As I looked over my right sholder, there he was, the pacer!  We crossed the finish line together.  Just disappointed we didn't make it under by 43 seconds.
So, even with the lack of training and not a very impressive time.  I was glad I ran.  After the race is when the real adventure happened.  After finishing I immediatly saw Marlin.  Then I ran into Karen, Scott, Idonna, Claudia and Cindy in the runners correl as I was leaving to go where Marlin was.  Once, I got done talking I found Marlin at the bag pickp.  I wanted some ibuprofen so we went over to the medical tent.  After Marlin got me some he was talking to someone else he knew.  I guess I started to look pale. He made me go into the medical tent.  Low and behold my blood pressure was down to 100/60.  I just hung around there alittle.  I knew I was alittle light headed, but didn't think I felt that bad.  I think it was just due to not drinking enough on the course and lack of sleep.   I sure slept good last night!!!

I rode the bike at work today on lunch.  Felt good to stretch out my legs.  Overall they haven't been as sore as usual.  Something I realized was during the race on Saturday I never had that feeling of having to deep super deep to finish.  It was hard towards the end, but I didn't push myself like I have in other runs.

After running some errands I went for a bike ride with my sister, Kelly.  We left from Bill's Bike Shop and rode out to our parents.  15 miles.

I got out running alittle later than normal.  It was pretty tempting not to go since Sunday is usually my day off. But, I knew my sister was running 16 miles for the first time in Calif. so I kind of felt like I needed to alittle longer today.  After one loop around the river I went over to SRL and down to Sunnyside.  After getting back to Broadway I decided to finish with one more loop around the river.  Ended with 10 miles because I wanted to do a bike ride in the afternoon.

Since I go to my parents every morning, I went over on my way home.  When I drove in the driveway I saw a strange car and couldn't figure out who it was.  When I went into the house I saw someone in the kitchen with my mom.  For the life of me, I couldn't figure out who it was.  Then she started laughing.  It was my pregnant neice and her husband from Calif!  I had just gotten off the phone with her mom (who did the long run).  She and her husband had driven the day before to see my parents and not told a soul!  They arrived at my parents house at like 9pm last night.  I was so happy to see them!!! 

Later in the day I went for a bike ride with my sister up at Sunnyside hill. We bike up hill for 2 1/2 miles non stop.  It was not quite the bike ride we expected.  I wanted rolling hills.  Biking down scared me alittle to say the least.   I know I can go down 2 1/2 miles without pedeling once.

I ran with my sister who was visiting from Orangevale, Calif.  She wanted to do a long run while she was here. She has a half marathon in two weeks. She's been trying to go under 2 hours for a half and hasn't done it yet.  She's so close and wants it so bad.  It was fun running with her and made the run go by so fast.  I know I wouldn't have done 18 miles if she wasn't there.

I just had the chance to run/walk the 50K River of No Return (RONR) Endurance Run with two other women, Claudia Russell and Karen Smith.  What an experience!  Ever since I ran the Ogden Marathon I never quite felt ready for this race. I seriously considered backing down to the 25K.  It wasn't until the night before, after they had a meeting for everyone, that I made a final decision. I went into it with no expectations and would do what I could do.  After the first few miles we started climbing up the first hill. We hiked up the hills and ran even ever we could. I loved looking down to the valley to see how far we'd gone up.  It seemed like forever to get to the first aid station (at mile 9).  It was strange to see food (fruit, potatoe chips, pretzels, etc...).  After snacking on a few things and getting our hydration packs checked and refilled we continued to head up some more to the next aid station. Once we reached that we were actually going to head down to a little ghost town called Bayhorse.  This was a great aid station.  There were spectators and so many volunteers.  The volunteers through this whole course were AMAZING!  They were there to help and do whatever they could for you.  We actually spent quite a bit of time at this aid station.  Karen's ankle and foot were bothering her so they taped it up tighter than it already was (she had taped it up that morning).  She had been struggling once we started climbing the first hills, but she was really hurting now. After we left the ghost town we had to hike back up to get back to the second aid station (it was an out and back).  Once we got there we were hoping to run since it'd be downhill from there to the finish.  Karen was really, really hurting!  She couldn't run at all. Long story short, we walked the rest of the way to the finish. We had actually walked 15 miles because we had hiked back out of the canyon.  It would have been nice to run down the remaining 11 miles, but Karen just couldn't do it.  This was a hard course because you were either going up the mountain or coming down.  The elevation got up to 8104 feet twice since we climbed two summits.  It took us over 10 hours to cover the course, but this was not a race about time.  We had made the decision to finish together so that's what we did.  Karen was hurting pretty bad and we didn't care how long it took us to finish. She did everything from using a tree branch as a walking stick, walking backwards and just walking slow. We came in close to last. I was just glad to be with two great friends. This race was well organized and the volunteers were more than amazing. It was great camping right next to the track/finish line. I loved watching others come into finish.  I really enjoyed the course and had a great day!

Went down to the gym at work to ride the bike to see how my legs felt.  Made sure to stretch for awhile.

Managed to run 5 miles this morning.  Legs and body still sore from last weekend.  So glad I forgot my watch to know my pace.  Legs were tired, but it was nice to get them moving again.

Went on an 11 mile hike up at Island Park with my sister and her husband.  It was pretty nice getting out and doing something other than a run.

Ran in Island Park. Was hoping to go further while running with my sister.  The heat and being in the moutains got to her since she's from Calif.  Nice sister time.   Later in the day I went for a couple of bike rides on the trails up there.

Ran in Boise along the Greenbelt while my daughter did a Pure Barre class. I LOVE running over there. There was a race going on and it had to be towards the end. So I stopped at their aid station for water and talked to the volunteers. We talked about running in Boise and  about there being so many races.  After working out we went to the Farmers Market and shopping. That night we got to watch the Twilight Criterium Bike Race. Good day!

Normal run. As I was getting ready for work my mom called saying her back surgery had been moved up for earlier in the day.  It was a hectic morning but I still went into work and left early.  For being 85 yrs old, The surgery went great.  She got to go home and now it's just time to rest for the next few days.

Ran up in Island Park this morning.  I had gone up yesterday evening since I had cousins come from out of town.  I hadn't really spent time with them since we were kids.  It was alittle different because we haven't been close and are just very different types of people.  I did enjoy seeing them and catching up with their lives.

Ran to Buttermilk Campground and on my way back I found a 4-wheeler trail with a hill.  Decided to run it for alittle extra.  Happy to get 7 miles in.  Nice run!
