Short-Term Running Goals:

It's been a challenging year so far since Boston 2011.  When I got home from Boston my world changed when I found out I had some pretty severe food allergies. Since being tested I have been focused on building my health back up which has been a long slow process. What a difference it's made and I feel extremely blessed. For years I knew something was wrong and it's amazing to finally know that food can actually be a persons medicine to live a healthy life. 

Long-Term Running Goals:

I'm hoping to start building more miles when I can and be injury free.  Maybe one of these days I'll be fast. Just for now I'm just very happy to be running.

Personal:

Happily married to Marlin Ordway. We've got 4 grown children between the two of us.  It's been fun watching them go through life - making mistakes and picking themselves back up.  I love seeming them happy and succeeding.

First run for the new year.  Didn't really want to get out of bed and go to the gym.  Just wanted to have an easier day today.  I was happy that the run actually wasn't to bad.  I think I was bummed that I had to work today.  Hopefully I'll feel like going to do yoga after work.  Hope everyone has a good day off!

I've been thinking about switching things up.  Just ran 5 miles this morning with a few intervals.  Then went and did the Arc Trainer for 15 min's.  Finished with a couple of weights and then off to work.  I've been working on strenghting my back alittle more.  I had planned on going back to the gym yesterday for the 4:30pm yoga class, but got out of work late.  Oh well, just stretched alittle watching tv last night.

Got to the gym this morning and again.....very busy.  Dang all the new years resolution people.   No, I think it's good.  They're trying. I went straight to a TM by the window. Stopped and talked to Marlin for a few minutes since he was riding the bike (he hurt his leg at work).  I did see Jeff and Lynette up on the TM, but, didn't make it over to say hello.  Felt kinda of bad about not being very social. But, didn't really want to interrupt their run.   Ran 7 miles easy.  After I got done I stopped and talked to Andrea for a few minutes.  Talked about core work.    Finished with a few weights and then stretching.  Off to work.  

I'm hoping to go home and ride the bike again tonight.   I had done it last night for 20 or so minutes and felt pretty good.  Got me motivated to stretch when I was done.

I'm starting to learn you have to get to the gym very early these days to get a TM. I felt lucky to get the one I did.  It all started out well and then just quit on me.  Boy, was I glad to see that another one had opened up down by Lynette.  She's great motivation.   Once I got going it turned into a good run.  Finished with 7.5 miles.  I went back and did a few weights, core and stretching. One of these days it'll pay off....I hope.   Off to work.

Day off!  Was happy to be at the gym early today considering it was a day off for me.  Saw Marlin and Curt.  Didn't get tp talk to Curt before he left.  Had planned on just 7 or 8 miles, but ended up with 10.  I was happy I was able to get some intervals in the run.  Spent time doing weights and stretching.  It was a long workout today and hope I can do it again tomorrow.

Today was a day I really did not want to go to the gym.  I knew in my head last night it'd be like that.   I broke down at 4:50 this morning and got up to go.  Once I got there is was GREAT to see Curt, Kevin and Lynette, and of course Marlin! Later on I saw that Andrea was there.  McKay showed up as I was finishing up.  And, it was great Debra was there. She stopped over to talk to McKay, but I was glad to talk to her for a few min's also.  It's amazing what a difference it makes seeing everyone.  Had planned on just 6 miles, but was happy to do the 7.   I'm glad I went and feel much better.

Went to the gym early this morning.  It was great seeing Curt and Jeff first thing. Saw Marlin, Lynette, Andrea and Deborah working out also. I love walking upstairs and seeing whoever's there.  Make me glad I went.  After talking to Marlin for a few min's I started with my run.  I'm glad he's been able to run!  Tried to just take it easy since it was Friday.  Since I was there early I got to do a few weights and stretched.  Nice workout.

yesterday i went to the gym alittle later than Marlin.  I'd gotten up early the whole week so I wanted to take advantage of a Sat.   I saw Jeff as soon as I came up the stairs.  It was get he gave me some advice on doing my run. Helped me do an even  longer run than I'd planed. It felt so good to do a long run again!  I hadn't done for so long.  Afterwards I did a couple of weights and stretched.  Then Marlin and I went to Gray's house to watch the Olymic Trials with everyone.  Then I actually went up to the cabin since my sister and her two girls were there.

Went to the gym this morning.  Happy to run next to Marlin and Curt.  Saw Andrea and Lynette.  Found out it was Curt's birthday today from Lynette!  To bad we all couldn't sing to him. 

I was happy I did intervals today.  Felt pretty good overall.  I think over this last year they've gotten easier.  Finshed with stretching and then off to work.

Long run day.  Decided to sleep in alittle bit today.  I was able to get a massage yesterday after work (thanks Marlin for setting it up), so I wanted to sleep alittle longer.  Once I got to the gym it was SO busy!!!  It was pretty difficult to get a TM.  Got one next to Curt and Alana.  I wasn't sure how my hip and leg were going to feel so I was very happy to get the 16 in.  At mile 12 I noticed I was alittle tired, but I was going to get to 16 miles no matter what.  I'm not sure if it was because of the massage or that I didn't fuel right this morning.  But, got it done!   After running did some stretching and core work.  Then the hottub before going to see Sherlock Holmes with my daughter.  Hope everyone had a good run today!

Alittle tired today, but did the usual 7.  I've been trying to get more in a training mode so I think I'll try and go back to the gym after work.  I can't believe all the people doing 2 a day workout's.  I just want to make sure and stretch, some weights and possibly some type of cardo again.   Saw Curt and Marlin as soon as I got there.  Happy Monday!

Boy, I almost didn't make it to they gym today.  Ended up just running alittle late, not to bad tho.  Ran 7 miles with a zillion small intervals. 

I'm starting to work on a project at work to try and get the employees into a 5k or 10k in May.  Trying to pull it together in the next week and a half to launch it to the employee's. I'm working with someone in our Northern Idaho site that does the Ironman there.  We're hoping to make it a competition between our three sites - the other is in Colorado.   We're got some pretty unfit people at work so I'm trying to think of how to get them motivated and out of their comfort zone.  I'm going to start with finding a beginning training program so they have something to follow.  Hopefully this thing goes well.

Went to the gym this morning.  Not super early because I wanted to sleep in just alittle bit since it Sat.  Not many people at the gym because they all went outside.  I didn't want my first run outside to be a long run.  I think I'll work on getting out there this week.   Had planned to run 14 to 16 miles.  Felt pretty good overall so decided to do 1 more to make it 17.  Made sure I stretched good afterwards.  Spent the rest of the day just running around doing errands.  Ton of fun meeting up with my sister and mom at Sam's club.

Woke up later than I thought! I'm not sure if it was due to riding the bike at home after work yesterday or just being tired.  Still went ahead and went to the gym.  Ran intervals since it was Tue.  I was happy I still made it to work on time.   No workout after work.  Since my parents are in town I went over to see them for awhile.  Then brought my two neices home with me since there were there too.   

ActuaIlly applied for a job with the City of IF a couple of days ago.  Have no idea if I'll even hear them them.  I wonder how many ap's they got.

Early morning run at the gym.  I didn't want to attempt a long run outside yet.  I think this week I'll run after work a few days to get used to it.  Met a couple that are just moving here from Minn.  I'd met the husband about a week ago one morning.  Met his wife today.  Great meeting them.  Then talked to another friend for awhile when I was headed to the sauna.   It's always pretty interesting seeing people's reaction when you say you just ran 20 miles on a TM.

A morning of intervals. Ran 8 x 400 x 200.  Finished with a MP for the rest of run.  Felt pretty good overall.  Been awhile since I've ran in Z3/Z4. Ended with 8.60 miles, stretched and then off to work.  

Went back to the gym after work today and ran alittle over 3 miles at a slow pace. Finished with jumprope, squats and stretching. Sure do like switching things around. Good day of working out.

Went and saw a PT yesterday about my hip.  It's been bugging me for months.   Was glad he had idea's of what it was and what to do.  Afterwards went to the gym....ran 10 miles.  Felt pretty good actually.  Wonder if I'll pay the price later.

Boy, it was a stuggle to run today.  I knew I was avoiding when I was clearing the paper jam in my shredder.  If I'd rather do that then run there is a problem. I just knew I needed to get my running stuff on (stuggle, but overcame) and get in the car and drive.  Once I got to the gym realized I had no headphones (disappointed) but got on the TM anyway.  I knew I just needed to worry about running the first hour.  That down and things got better.  HR was up alittle the first third of the run but was happy it settle down and evened out as the run went on.  Glad I stuck with it and actually ended up doing a mile more than I planned.  

It was great to see Kami and their visitor Robert using the weights.  Nice site to see afterwards.

very nice, mauri! excellent mileage in spite of the struggles at the beginning. i think breaking through the mental barriers on those days where you are feeling unmotivated is just as important as getting through the tough workouts. it helps you to see what you can overcome by sheer willpower. these are the runs that you can draw strength from in the final miles of a marathon when it really becomes mind over matter. awesome job.

Thanks allie. It was the day I typically take off so it was alittle tough getting out the door knowing I had a long run ahead. Just wasn't in the mood on a Sunday. Glad I got it done!!!

Was happy to get to the gym this morning.  First thing I saw was Jeff and Marlin running.  Stopped by them for a min and then went over by the window to watch cars and people come in.  I didn't feel like I could come close to keep up with them also.  After yesterday I wanted to take it easy this morning and being next to them I'd felt like I had to push it.   Before I left the gym I saw Moses from the Biggest Loser so I made sure and went to introduce myself because he's going to come into work in about a week or so.  At work we're trying to get employees signed up for a 5K in May.  I'm SO grateful Jeff & Teton Running are holding a clinic for everyone this week at the store.  It's been hard to say who's going to be willing to step out of their box and try.   I don't know if my co-workers know how lucky they are to have a chance to listen and meet Jeff & Gray.  

Went back to the gym after work today. Did the Archtrainer for 30 min's and then did a few little strenght training things.  Made it to the hottub before heading home.

Boy, almost didn't make it to the gym this morning.  Last couple of days I've felt run down/tired.  Good thing Marlin forgot his phone and called!!!   When I got there saw Curt and Marlin running.  Saw Jeff as I was getting ready to find a TM.  Was going to say hi on my way by again, but, he'd left.  I was just happy to be there.  Wasn't quite sure if I felt like intervals.  But, after running a few miles I decided why not.  I laughted in my head when Marlin said 'don't over do it'.  When does a runner never over do it?   Was happy to get 6 X 600 w/200 cooldown - Z4.

Day off!  Slept in until about 6:30am.  Got to the gym and saw Marlin & Curt running.  Marlin on his second run for the day and Curt going strong as ever!  I went over the window because I wanted to set the TM timer for over an hour and watch people come and go.  After I got done Curt was still running!  Still strong as ever.  It's so amazing how every one just goes and goes.....seems all we do is run.

Well, when I went to bed last night I wasn't sure if I'd feel like waking up and going running.  A few weeks ago I was asked by our Site Director at work to head up and organize a 5 K Fun Run for our employee's to walk/run in May. 

We've got 3 different sites (I.F, North. ID & Fort Collin).  Each site will try and motivate the employee's to get out and exercise.  The orignial idea came from another employee in North ID who is an Elite Ironman Triathlete.

So far, what I've been able to organize is:  1) found a race; 2) Teton Running has been awesome to offer and hold a clinic once a month to help educate about running a 5K; 3) talked with Apple Athletic Club and was able to get a previous contestant from the Biggest Loser to come into our work for the employee's to meet.  What I'm learning is that it's a pretty big challenge to get people out there and moving.  We had a 'Getting Started' clinic set for last night and 1 (yes 1) person showed up!!!!  Since last night I've done pretty good at holding back my thoughts on this turnout.  However, I did email the Site Director, HR and our Admin Assistant on how it went this morning.  I was happy that I remained professional while at the same time talking about what I thought about the across site challenge.  We will see what happens going forward. 

I guess I'm just amazed that with the condition of people's health the lack of willingness to do anything about it.  We live in a world of processed and fast food.  However, I don't think you have to live within that world if you don't want to.   It's all a choice.

I've known some amazing people, but I do have to say runners are the best!

Other than that.  I was happy with my run.  Ran 7 miles.  Good tempo run in Z3 and even bumped up the incline.  Good day!!!

There was a big power glitch yesterday at work.  And alot of leadership got stuck here trying to work through keeping things going.  I had stopped by in the afternoon shortly after it'd happened and the building did smell like burnt electrical & they did have to evacuate the building.  But still, there could have been more of turnout!   But, the positive was I've had a few people apologize for last night and not making it.

Didn't want to get out of bed this morning.  Managed to make it to the gym this morning. Saw Jeff and Marlin.  Timing was great - Marlin we just finishing so I took his TM.  Felt like a turtle alittle bit running next to Jeff.   I wasn't in the mood to push it much today except for the last 1 1/2 miles, I finally bumped it up more.  I've been tired.  I like that I'm getting more comfortable at an 8:13 or 8:20 pace - new comfort zone.

Look forward work a normal day at work and then hanging out with Marlin tonight.

What an amazing run the running group had this morning...getting caught up in the snow storm!  There did amazing!!!  I look up to them so much and what they can accomplish!   Since I'm not near as fast as they are I did my typical run at the gym.  The last couple of long runs I've noticed they're not as overwhelming mentally as they would have been a year ago.  It takes me a few miles to begin to get into a routine, but as the run goes on I get in a pretty good routine and pace.   I HAVE to start running outside.  My dilemma has been running early in the morning during the week I really don't want to run outside when it's still dark.  I guess I'm being a wimp, but it's my dilemma.  Since I've ran in the AM I haven't made myself do a second run in the day afterwork. When I do go to the gym in the PM I usually do run a few extra miles and then do strenght training and stretching.  So, come the weekend I don't want to do my first run outside to be a long run.  So, my plan is to look at the weather for the week and make myself run outside after work.  I'll just do a double.

Slept in until 6:30 until Marlin came and woke me up. Made it to the gym just right after Marlin and he was wonderful enough to save me a TM by the window. I love running by the window on a longer run. It's always so much fun seeing the same people come and go and you're just still there running. I made myself hold it back alittle since this was suppost to be a long slow run. Now get to hang out at home, get a few things done and then relax.  Hope everyone has a good run this weekend!

On a side not still trying to get employee's at work interested in doing a Fun Run in May.  Next week Moses (Biggest Loser) and Apple Athletic are coming in.  Sure hoping this motivates people!  I think interest has picked up because management has put out a couple of prizes for people to participate.  I'm finding it very sad that people are not more intested in taking care of themselves.  But, if a prize is what it takes then I guess that's the way it is.  Maybe once they start to notice a difference they'll see the benefit.  Sure hoping they'll be able to relate to Moses and what he's overcome.  We'll see how it goes.

Man oh man what a run today! Should have listened to my husband (Marlin) and went up with the group (lesson 1). A couple of reason why I didn't....I was up late watching my two neices (until 11pm) and I took my time in the morning. Then I ended up talking to my sister and dad which kind of put me behind. As I was heading up the hill I saw Lyndsi.  She looked pretty good.  As I sat up in my car ready to go at Bone I finally had to tell my dad...'dad, I need to go run'. Once I got started I couldn't believe how windy it was. For a split second I thought 'would be nice running down at the greenbelt'. But, I knew there were quite a few great runners up running so I thought...'if they can do it, so can I'. After a few miles I ran into Gary and then later Alana and Alisa and they all looked pretty good. When I got to around mile 4 or so I saw a big group of runners. Jeff, Lynette, Curt, Marlin, Cache. After talking for a few minutes I continued on. Just as I was getting to mile 8 Marlin shows up in the truck. He's the best husband in the world. He was going to stay with me as I finished the run.  He had mentioned finishing my run in town, but I wasn't going to stop at that point because I didn't run into the wind for 8 miles just to quite at that point. I knew running back the wind would be at my back and I wanted to take advantage of that.  Marlin would drive ahead at each mile and wait for me.  I  was filling bad that he was having to wait for me and mentally it got tougher to run.  So, I threw in the towel and gave in.....he took me to the car and we headed into town.  I went to the greenbelt to finish my last 5 miles and I have to say I think it was just as windy there as up on the hill.  Just gotta say it was interesting to run in so much wind.  Not my favorite thing to do, but glad to get a long run in.  Everyone did great!

 

Today I woke up thinking of the days when I was raising my kids.  Used to drop them off in grade school and head to the gym.  Would work out for about an hour and a half and then there were days I could actually go to Mission Beach, Pacific Beach or a few other area's around San Diego and run.  I can tell things aren't quite the same.  Age kicked in. : )

Managed to do 7 miles around the greenbelt after work.  Overall easy pace.  I'd forgotten my garmin so I may have been glad not to see the pace.   There is a guy that walks the river EVERY DAY and he stopped to talk after I was done. I'd read about him in the paper about a year ago. and see him on alot of my runs.  He's been walking the river for 5 years never missing a day!  Pretty impressive.  It was nice to talk and meet him finally.  Nice guy.  : )

I couldn't get myself to run at 3am this morning when down in slc. Marlin went out. But, I opted for the bike at the hotel.  It wasn't to bad. Pretty strange exercising at 3am. Plan on running in the morning here in Boston.

It was great flying to Boston today! It's been a couple of years since Marlin and I have had a vacation like this.  Reminded me of going to China.  Layover in Dallas wasn't to bad.  I walked around some to avoid  sitting so much.  Hip is still kind of bothering me and sitting doesn't help it.  Once we got to Boston  (at 3:55pm) it was alittle stressful until we got to the hotel. We've pretty much hung out here the rest of the day.  Ate dinner and hung out in the room.  Have been alittle tired from traveling all day.  Our daughter is catching the red eye tonight and will be here in the morning.  Can't wait until everyone else gets here also!!! 

The 5K project at work for the employees seems to be going alright as far as I can tell.  Sent out emails a couple of times this week to hopefully help motivate people to get outside and walk/run.  After emailing the coordinator up in Coeur d'Alene a few times this week it sounds like our site is ahead and may win the competition between all 3 of our working site.  I'm hoping so!

We walked the Freedom Trail in Boston today. Five hours of walking!   It was great to see so much history.  Then our daughter took Marlin and I out for dinner.  It was our 9th Anniversary!!!  Plus, add 3 yrs of dating = 12 yrs!!!  Have had an amazing time!!!

Have to start by saying running Boston was amazing and feel so very lucky to have done it along with so many others from our area. I ran it with Karen Smith from Idaho Falls who I’ve never ran with. We knew ahead of time that we were very similar and had the same goals.

Here’s how the numbers look:

10K – 53.38

Half – 1:58:02

Finish – 4:11:24

Starting place (bib number) - #19946

Finishing place - #10848 (I passed 9098 people!)

Age group (females) – 156th out of 808

Karen and I made it up to the Runners Village pretty early and ran into into Marlin, Jeff, Walter, Rob & Steve. Had just met most of them (Walter, Rob & Steve) the night before at dinner. They looked happy to be there and ready to go.

Once Karen and I got to our corral I couldn’t believe how hot it was and we were just starting! Karen had brought us white cotton towels that we got wet and put around our necks. I was happy with the pace for the first 10K and hoped that we would not pay the price later on. But, I wanted to bank any time we could early on. As we were going along there were water stations everywhere and we ended up stopping at them all. It was alright for a while because I poured water over me every chance I could. But then I started not to like stopping – to time consuming. Around mile 10 or so we stopped for pit stop #1 (PoP). For a couple of miles I could tell I was getting over hydrated so I knew it was time to cut back. We had found some kids passing out baggies of ice so we grabbed two. I stuck mine in my back top. It was pretty cold! A guy passed me saying he’d buy it for $100 and pay me at the end. Pretty funny. Karen had her husband and family meeting her between mile 16 & 17. Each time I looked back she was right behind me, but then was gone. I decided to run into a PoP to see if I could possibly find her afterwards. I did not see her the whole rest of the course! The remainder of the course was still just hot. I knew I wouldn’t make 4 hours but wanted to get as close as possible. It was fun running by Wellsely College hearing everyone yelling and giving high fives. Running up Newton Hill and Heartbreak Hill were a pain. I think more so due to the heat than anything else!!! I was happy to be within 5 miles to the finish and kept thinking just get it done!!! My legs were extremely heavy (this actually started around mile 10) and my hips were as tight as could be.

I’ve learnt that the race I run is completely different than what Marlin runs. It is a completely different experience with different expectations. There was a lot of digging deep to find the strength to run the whole course rather than break down and walk. Walking was not an option. I know everyone has their own reasons for running. One thing my father drilled in my head growing up was you're the caption of your own ship!!!

What an experience!!! Boston was AMAZING!!!

Time to catch up on FRB.  Spent the day traveling from Boston to New York City to spend a few days.  It was pretty traveling by Amtrak to see the countryside.  Once we arrived at Penn Station we walked to the hotel 1 1/2 (long) blocks. We ended up being in a Korean District.  Walked around later that night to find a place to eat. Who would think NYC had good fish taco's.  I found it kind of strange to find fish taco's.

First full day in NYC.  We started out from the hotel walking to Chelsea's Market.  It's a cool shopping place with fun little shops.  Took the Subway down to the World Trade Center.  We got our pass and went through security to get to the pools.  Very pretty and neat to see.  We then walked down to catch the Staten Island Ferry to ride around the harbor and see the Statue of Liberty.  It was a ton of fun riding!  We ended up going to the other side over by Brooklyn and switching boats.  It was pretty interesting to think that this is how these guys commute to work in the city! 

Since we were down as far as we could we started walking back up.  We headed up on the first side of the city to get a picture of the Brooklyn Bridge and then walked inland to Wall Street.  Amazing!!!  We could see something going on so I asked a guy there what it was and he told us it Occupy Wall Street.  Of course we had to walk down there. It was pretty interesting to see I do have to say. The people just sat there with signs and every once in awhile someone would say something.  Like a quote or they'd say things about what they were protesting.  Police just stood there along with the spectators.  People like us taking pictures.

After Wall Street we walked back up to the WTC and then jumped on a Subway.  Riding the Subway was pretty strange.  One thing about this city is it seems like no one talks to anyone.  There was one nice lady that helped make sure which Subway to take and let us know we were the next exit as she got off at her stop.  Not the most friendly city.   

After getting up by the hotel again we went to eat in a little place that had a few different options for Korean food.  It was interesting to eat since it was where the local Korean's were eating.

Day 2 in NYC. We started the day walking up to Time Square. WOW!!! Fron the beginning when we got here we knew everything was big, but WOW. I'm not even sure how to explain Time Square. There was so much to see. We didn't stay there a super long time because we wanted to get up to the Natural History Musuem shortly after it opened (to avoid long lines). I just loved the Musuem! It was a ton of fun to see the different exhibits. Afterwards we headed over to Central Park. It was pretty cool walking through and seeing people rowing boats in the huge pond. There were different area's that we got to see and the park was huge!!! We only got to see part of it,too.

We started heading back down and walked down 5th Ave. When we got down by Rockefeller Center we walked into this chocolate store. We thought 'maybe they'll have a sample'. Pretty funny thinking on our part. This chocolate was $88/lb.

We had to go back to the hotel early in the afternoon because we were going to see a Broadway Play. When we left for the play my daughter wanted New York pizza so we headed back up towards Time Square to the Theater District. We ended up at this small pizza place where we could buy pizza by the slice. Man was it good!!! We've eaten some real NYC food!

We went and saw The Book of Mormon. She's always wanted to come to NY NY, along with see a play. We were there early so we went to use the bathroom and walk around the theater. When we came back Marlin was talking to the people sitting next to use. Low and behold there were from Pocatello!!! They didn't live in Idaho any longer, but had graduated from Poc. One girl was now living in London and the other in Connecticut. We could not believe it. What are the odds so sitting right next to someone so close. The play was amazing. If anyone ever goes to NY you have to see a play. After the play we stopped down by Time Square again and ate some dessert. Felt no guilt due to all the walking we've done. Time Square at night is completely different than the day. We got to see the Naked Cowboy. When I tried to get a picture of Malory he yelled out to her to come over, but she wouldn't! It was pretty funny.

This was our last day in NYC.  We ended up walking around to some of the shops/stores.  I was looking for a birthday present for my sister.  We had gone to Macy's the first night, so we actually ended up spending some time there again before we left. I had left my glasses there and wanted to just check to see if there were there.  There were quite  few in lost & found, but they didn't have mine. 

Left the hotel and went to a hotel out by Queens.  What a different world out here, too.   Looking forward to going home tomorrow!  We're exhausted!!!

First run in a week this morning.  Started out alright and felt good to run.  By the end of the run my calfs felt tight again.  Not sure if it was from Boston or all the walking we did in New York.  I've never walked so much in my life.  I think on my lunch today I'll hurry and an get my gym bag and go to the gym after work.  I want to do the ellipticaland/or rowing machine. Now back to work and normal life.  Ummmm.

Went back to the gym after work.  Just did the  rowing machine for 30 min's, stretched (alot) and did a couple of weights.

I've been having a hard time running this week.  Rode the bike at home the last two days.  Feel like a slacker, but it's been nice doing something else.  

Went to the doc yesterday to see what they said about blood test results.  So far it looks Marlin and I will be going gluten free.  They actually want to do a few more test to find out what foods cause the issue.  At the first appointment the doc. said I'm getting plently of oxygen into my system, but only around 25% of the nutrients that I eat.  He went into detail yesterday explaining it all to Marlin and I and it sure does make sense and explains alot of why I feel the way that I do.  I'm sure glad we've got friends who are dealing with the same things.  It's going to help figure thing out and get educated on being gluten free. 

Just also found out at work that they're going to cut back some of management.  I guess I'll see on Monday if my job's affected.  Not sure if they're laying off or moving people into different postions.  Sure wish they would have waited until Monday to announce anything.  Not the best email to get on a Friday.

Went for an early run this morning.  Pretty cold.  I had actually set out later than Marlin did.  I wanted to wait just before the sun came out.  Wasn't sure how far I wanted to run when I set out.  Happy to get alittle over 10 miles in.   Leg and hip felt pretty good, better than it did before Boston.  Last mile I started to feel it getting sore like it used to. 

Spent the rest of the day running errands and getting a couple of things done at home.

Went into town to run this morning.  7 miles.  It's going to be hectic this week.  Worked yesterday to take Friday off.  Family coming in on Friday, daughter graduating college this Sat, and then she's moving to Boise on Sunday!!!  Busy, busy, busy!!!  And, then it's just going to be me and Marlin again at home! Can't wait to see my son, sister and niece!!!!   There's alot of good things happening with Malory right now.  She got a job with the City of Boise as a legal secretary.  Her degree is in Management and Human Resourses so she's hoping to move around with the city job at some point.  I'm excited to sit and talk to my son.  He's hired a coach for his bike racing because he'd like to get a sponsor at some point.  I'm just glad he has something that he's passionate about.

I op'd to take a yoga class this morning.  Yesterday I started to think about giving my hip alittle of a rest and doing different things.  On Monday I had noticed my leg/hip was still sore.  The class actually felt good.  I could hear back pop so it was good to loosen it up.  After work I have another appt with the doctor to see if I have to avoid gluten.  It'll be interesting to see what they say.  It'll really be the pits not having pizza!   After the appt I hope to go back to the gym again. 

On a happy note I still have a job.  Over the last couple of days they went through a reduction in Operations.  My supervisor was affected so I'm not sure how the restructure will end up looking.  Will have to see how the next week goes.

Ran 7 miles this morning.  I feel like I'm getting my stride back alittle more.  Leg was alittle sore in the beginning, but felt alright through the run. Have to say I'm missing the blog.  But, I didn't do any running this week.  Got an x-ray done on my back and they told me I don't have much cushion between my lower disk.  Between old age and running I guess.  I'm going to just keep taking a break from running and do other training.  I did spend the week going to the gym doing other workouts.  It has been nice doing other things I have to admit.  I kind of feel out of shape actually.  Just because I haven't done other things for so long and I don't have the body strength and muscle I've had years ago.  Did the spinning class this morning.  Actually had a good workout. 

Next week I'm hoping to find out what foods I may be sensitive to.  For another 3 weeks my diet is still going to pretty limited.  I’m only able to eat pretty much protein and fruit & veggies.  Poor Marlin has to live with me. 

Looking forward to going to Island Park after work today.  Going to take our bikes and I'll probably ride when Marlin runs.

Ran the Tommy Vaughn race this weekend.  It was a fun local race.  The director put on a good race.  Just a few things to work out for next year.   My watch said 3.19 miles at 25.13.98 minutes.  The posting time from T.V. says 25.49 for 3.1 miles. Who's to say who's right.  It was a good race overall. There was a young girl pass me at the end (I'd passed her earlier in the race).  She should have since she looked like she was in her early 20's. It just bugs me alittle that she passed me. 

I had organized something at work for some of the employee's and there were around 55 employee's that took part of T.V.. Most of them walked, but it was great that they were out there.  I was glad to see them do something out of their comfort zone and see what the running community is all about.  Hopefully we can do it again at wI'ork and this time even more people do it.   Another positive is Marlin and I both took Masters in our races.  Hopefully I wasn't the only who qualified for it in my race.  I'm not sure who or how many people may have qualified for it.  I'm just happy Marlin and I got it at the same time.  After the race we drove to Boise to move our daughters things over to her new apartment.  Sure was a fun weekend.

Marlin and I are hoping to find out what I'm sensitive food wise. I'm being tested  for food sensitivies. My diets been super limited for that last two weeks.  It's getting easier to do but it's been a pain. Hopefully just two more weeks of eating like this.  My energy level has been lower than normal, but I have been feeling better.  I only ran once in the last two weeks.  Have just been doing cross training at the gym.  I feel like I'm falling apart because my back and right leg has bothered me for the last 6 months or so.  But, I'm been working on getting that taken care of also.  The doc doesn't really want me to run, bike, do the elliptical, rowing machine,  ect....  But, I can do yoga and weights.   I've been pretty good about cutting back but it's drove me nuts alittle.  I know in the long run it's going to be fine.  This is a great time for me to get back on track and build up more strenght so I'm actually ok with it all. 

It  was great seeing everyone out this week racing!  Everyone did awesome!!!

It was great walking out my daughters apartment right into Ann Morrison Park in Boise.  What a great little apartment she has.  She's done great.  Graduating ISU a few weeks ago and starting a job with the City of Boise a couple of days later.  She loves it in Boise!  And, now Marlin and I have a place to stay when we go!

It was to tempting not to run.  Ran around the park alittle and over on the green belt.  I just love running along their pathway and the river.

Yahoo!  I ran this morning! Not my fastest time, but it was nice being out there!!!  I've ran so little I haven't bother to post anything.  In the last week or so I ran 7 last weekend and just a couple of miles besides that.  I've pretty much spent the last month or so just at the gym doing other things.  I feel like it's been paying off.  My back is feeling awhole lot better and I feel like I'm getting my strength back. It's still going to be alittle while, but I'm so happy with how things have been going. I'm sometimes amazed that alot of the things I was eating the last few years (at least) were actually making me sick and weak.  There are times when reality really hits that I actually can't eat dairy, soy and wheat.  It's a slow learning process at times on what to cook.  A co-worker told me a couple of times on Friday that she was alittle worried because I was to thin.  Had a time to explaining to her that I was actually feeling better then I had in quite awhile.  I acutally eat quite a bit but still just trying to maintain right now.  And, then there's the family dinners on Sunday night.  The last few weeks Marlin and just take our own dinner over to eat with everyone. It's all quite the adjustment. Marlin's sure been great about it all tho! 

Marlin's out of town for the next few days.  It's going to be pretty boring at home. Will just have to get things done around the house after work.   

I'm feeling bad for my son right now. He recked on his bike racing last weekend and got a pretty bad concussion.  He took last week off of work and it's still going to be a week or two until he's better.  This week at work he'll stay in the office.  He's bummed about that because he's training for a different position at work and he's ready to get all the training done. 

On a good note it's my daughters birthday this Tue.!!!

Went out early this morning around the Greenbelt.  Five slow miles.  But, I was happy to be out there and see Marlin!   Felt normal which was really nice.  Keeping it pretty slow and easy.  Marlin was right when he told me the least of my worries is my speed right now.  I'm so glad to just have miles to log right now.  Going to the gym after work today.   Hope everyone has a great day!!!

I wonder that sometimes too. Things sure changed after Boston. Little did we know so much was going on. I can't wait to see how things are 6 - 12 months from now. Who knew a persons diet could have such an effect. The American Diet is just crazy.

Today was a great day!  Ran 4 (easy) miles on the TM.  Boy, was that nice.  Saw Marlin and Debra as soon as I got there.  They sure made it look easy.  I've been doing the Arch Trainer for quite a while and wanted to just see how it felt to run.  I think crosstraining between the Arch Trainer and weights are paying off.  I might be able to start running more now if I don't push it.  Back and hip are starting to feel better. It's sure been nice reading everyone's racing reports!

Decided to give running another try today.  Overall easy pace - 6 miles.  Will just keep trying to push it with a day or so inbetween.  Back has felt pretty good so far.  Just need to make sure and keep cross training!

Went back to the gym afterwork to try a class of Pilates.  I really liked it.  I can tell my weak area is my hips and core.  Time to put alot more focus on that.  Hopefully I'll be able to do the class more. This next week is pretty busy since I'm working the weekend and plan to take all of next week off to go to the cabin.   I'm hoping to run and bike some.  My sister and her family is here and I'm so excited!

Did PX90 with my neice and sister up at the cabin for the first time ever.  Then everyone went to float the river up by Mack's Inn.   Saw some moose along the way.  Also came across a rope swing. I've never dared do it, but actually was brave enough this time.   Boy was it fun!

Made it to the gym early today.  Was able to run 6 miles and then did a little with weights and stretching. Running was easlier today than yesterday.  I can tell I have a ways to go.  One of these days I'll be able to do a long run.  We're running the Grand Teton Relay this weekend so I'm hoping it'll go alright since I haven't done a ton of running.

Yesterday I ended up working late and then met Marlin at the running store to buy a new pair of running shoes!  Sure felt good running today with them!  I forgot what a difference a new pair of shoes makes.

Marlin and I did the Grand Teton Relay this last weekend.  That was probably the funnest thing we've done running! Our theme was Star Wars.  At first I was pretty skeptical about the theme.  But, it ended up being a ton of fun for the race.  What an experience to be part of a 12 person relay team.  From supporting each runner as they ran each of legs for the race, laughing as we passed other runners playing our Darth Vader music, to trying to get one hour of sleep on a church lawn at 1am and the sprinklers going off on you, to running at the base of the Tetons at daybreak, to trying to take a nap at 9am in a park with a ton of other runners while there is music playing, and to watching your husband run up Teton Pass in 80+degree's weather.  To finish it off with running to the finish with all of your team mates.  Can't wait to do it again!

The second legs of the Grand Teton Relay were shorter than the first.  I got to do one and started running around 10pm.  It was pretty interesting running so late and not being able to see much. Even with a headlamp it was pretty dark. It was great that there were other support vehicles from time to time and could see alittle more from their headlights.  It was kind of neat because I could hear streams every now and then.  Loved running so late. 

I ended up not running the third leg. Two reasons, my legs were actually alittle sore, I could fill my hip/leg and there was Karen's daughter who wanted to run on the downside of Teton Pass.  I've only started to get back to more running the last week or so and I didn't want to set myself back.

I'm always so happy when I have miles to blog.  Went to the gym thinking I'd be meeting up with my sister.  I started by doing 30 min's on the ArchTrainer and then decided to run.  First thought  was to do 3. But, changed my mind and felt like 5 would be good without pushing it to much.  Felt pretty good with my pace.  Felt confortable around a 8:30 min/mile. Towards the end I pushed it to see if I could do an 8 min/mile.  Made sure and stretched really well and finished the workout off by doing weights.  I was pretty happy to get such a long workout in.  I can tell I still have a ways to go, but, I think I'll just keep doing what I'm doing since I feel like I'm making headway.  Was alittle bummed my sister didn't show, but still had a good workout! 

Very proud of how everyone did at the Pocatello Marathon on Sat!!!!

So glad I decided to run this morning.  It was alittle tempting not to because I don't remember the last day I've had off from working out.  Yesterday I had a pretty long workout with lots of cardo.  Ended up running 6 miles (thougth about doing 7 but opt'd out not wanting to push to hard) and was happy that I got down to a 8:30 pace.  I know that's a snails pace for most people, but for me it shows I am making progress since running Boston.  

Later Marlin and I went down to the fair.  It's always great walking around, but the downside this year was eating fair food was out.  We did finally find something we could both eat.  I ended up with Mussles and he had a potatoe.  First year ever that we haven't gotten Tiger Ears!

Went into town to run the greenbelt this morning. As I was getting ready to leave Marlin showed up. He'd just got done with his run.  He decided to run with me for awhile.  We ran to SNL and up to Sunnyside.  Pretty nice run.  Sure was fun running with Marlin!   Went we got back to the car and truck he left and I ran up to John's Hole bridge and back.  Finished with 6.60 miles.

Decided to run today.  I went into the greenbelt and ran over to SRL the way Marlin and I did the other day.  I decided I really like it over there. I started out feeling the best I had in quite awhile.  I started by running a 8:15 pace and wanted to see how long I could maintain it.  It felt pretty confortable.  For the majory of the run I was around an 8:15 - 8:22 pace.  The last two miles I was back running around the greenbelt and my pace dropped to just under a 8:30 pace.  Part of that was I didn't like running the path and concrete sidewalk. My choices were either running on the grass or road.  I pretty much refuse to run on it.  I opt'd for the road rather than concrete.  I made a couple of little stops - to tie my shoe, PoP, water break.  I'm just happy that I felt strong today.  I decided that I'm going to try and do a couple of spin classes during the week.  I think I need something new when it comes to gym workouts.  Hope everyone else had good runs today!!!

Ok, I just got a few miles in this morning. When I got to the gym I saw Debra and Marlin running.  I went back and did my usual on the Archtrainer.  After Marlin left to go to work Debra came back to me and asked why I wasn't running.  I'd actually thought about it driving into the gym, but, wasn't sure how I felt at that point.   Long story short I went ahead and ran for the second half of my cardio.  My hip was alittle tight but managed to do 3 miles.  Debated on doing 4 miles, but wanted to make sure I had time for weights and stretching.  Not many miles but at least I ran!

Had a great run this morning along the Boise bike path along the river.  I love staying downtown and being able to walk right out and the path is right there.  I really enjoy Sat morning runs.  No pressure to go to work.  I was just happy to go more than my usualy 6.  Would have liked to go alittle longer, but I knew my mom was waiting for me.  We came over to Boise last night so that she could see her sister today.  It was pretty hard to go see her because she just went into a nursing home about 2 weeks ago.  She had been having a hard time adjusting so they didn't want her to have visiters until this weekend.  When we saw her 3 weeks ago I'm not 100% sure she knew knew who mom was (her sister).  But, today as soon as she saw us she knew exactly who we were. She even knew who I was.  I think she may have kind of remembered my daughter who was with us too.  Big improvement!  : )  

I was reminded about quite a few things today. Be grateful!

Went into town to run around the greenbelt.  Pretty weird morning.  Right after I started running I hear someone say something.  I thought it might be from this other car that had just gotten there.  When I kept going they said something again and I realized it was Marlin.  He was just finishing. Every morning I park behind him along the road.  I stopped and talked to him for a few minutes. When we were talking it was raining alittle and he made the comment 'be careful'.  I thought that was kind of weird.  But, I had actually grabbed my pepperspray from my gym bag at home. Of course it was in the car because I don't like to feel I'm on the defense or something might happen.  I've ran down by the river for almost 2 yrs and feel pretty safe. There's usually others out and I figure we watch out for each other.   When I got to the other side I noticed someone sitting on one of the table smoking.  That was actually how I saw them, from the smell.   It caught me off guard so I go out to where they are doing construction on the road to avoid running right in front of them.  I'm sure it was pretty ovbious. But, what the heck.   I finished my first loop around the river and really didn't want to go again because I hadn't seen another soul out like normal.  I ended up running the one side of the river and over on Utah Ave.  It was great that it was lit, but the traffic was pretty annoying.  

I'm debating on where to run.  Out by the house is so dark because it's country roads and I have to wear a headlamp. Every once in awhile there are a couple of people who drive by.  I like SRL but, no one is usually over there.  Except there is usually a police car that drives by.  One morning they sat along the road as I ran.  I could run later in the morning, but I like getting it done early.  And, I do not want to run on the TM.  I mornings are to good right now.  I guess I'll think about it maybe make Marlin run with me every morning!!!   That won't happen because he's out there even earlier than I am.

Ok, this was the first race I've done since Boston. Ran City of Trees Half Marathon in Boise.  A few weeks ago I decided to be brave and try and run a race.  I wanted the jacket!  After not running much over the summer when everyone else was racing I held back trying to think that in the long run it'll pay off. Main goal then was to try and get some muscle back.   Awhile ago I started running more not really training for anything. It was great that my back and hip didn't but me like it had been. I was able to have some good weeks of running and did two longer runs over the last few weeks - one 9 and one 10 miler.  But, what the heck.  Just wanted to see what would happen this weekend. 

The course is pretty flat with inclines. Pretty much the only downhill was by the train depot. It was crowded when we started, but after the first mile it was easier to get around people.Wish I would have started closer to the front.  Fell into a confortable pace of 8:18.  Ran that for quite awhile the just slowly over the course of the race it would drop down little by little.   I felt pretty good up until mile 11. The last few miles I dropped down to an 8:45 & 8:50 pace.   I'm anxious to see what my Garmin says for the course.  I'm was just glad to be 5th in my age group.  The final posted on their website was 180th overall. 

Marlin did great!!!!  He did great even with this not being a downhill course!

When I was laying in bed this morning I didn't on running. Thought about doing yoga instead.  It sounded like a much better workout.  But, a few minutes after i was up I thought putting in a few miles actually sounded better.  I knew I didn't have much time because I was planning on meeting my sister between 8:30 and 9:00 to head to the cabin.   Went in town to the greenbelt and didn't push it at all for the first loop.  On the second loop it was like I saw a vision of some amazing runners coming towards me.  Surprize - I knew them!!!  I'm not even sure who all was there.  It was pretty neat seeing them.  Best part was Marlin was there and he came and ran with me.  It was kind of nice because he helps me push my pace.  What a fun morning.   Now off to Island Park to get a few things done before it snows!

Woke up this morning and decided to stay home and ride the exercise bike.  I was still tired from working up at the cabin.  After work I sure felt like running.  A gloomy overcast day....a perfect day to run!  Ran six miles and by the end it had started to rain.  Love running in the rain!

Went to the gym early this morning.  It was great to run next to Marlin.  Stopped by Jeff to say a quick hi since he looked like he was focused on his run.  Boy, he always amazes me.  

Since I ran yesterday after work I was glad todays run wasn't to hard. I know I'm still takig it pretty easy,  but, at least I'm planning on switching things up here soon. At least alittle bit.

I stayed home and rode our exercise bike this morning.  My hips felt weak for the rest of the day.  I wasn't sure if it was from the bike or the other exercises I did afterwards.  But, still a good workout.

I went ahead and ran this morning.  Overall, it felt ok.  I made sure and stretched after.  Just kept it at 6 miles today.

Had a good run running to Marlin this morning.  Felt pretty good.  I had done some stretches last night before going to bed so I was happy that my hips didn't bug me and hurt. 

I'm glad it's Friday and looking forward to going to the cabin again this weekend!  This time won't do so much work. Now that we know how to get water into it durning the winter and drain it when we leave I think it'll get used alot more this winter.   Might go to the ski sale coming up and look for some cross country skis'.

Slept in alittle today because I stayed up late last night.  Went over to my sisters for a few minutes because she was having some of her things moved.  Went into the river and saw Marlin leaving. We talked about it getting late and going to the cabin. So, I decide to give up my run and go home.  Once there he and I talk more about going and change our mind. We decide that we can learn Friday afternoon and stay until Sunday. So, off I go again over to my sisters to see if things got moved and then finally head back into the river.  Just ran 6 miles and thought about going longer, but it was still cold! 

Later Marlin and I went into the Verizon because we both were having problems with our phones.  Then off to Red Robin to eat.  Decided to go to the running store afterwards because my other sisters birthday is coming up and I wanted to get something for her.  It was great meeting David who's back in I.F. for alittle while. 

Boy, today's flown by.

Went to the gym this morning.  Ran pretty easy today.  I was glad I had the time to do alittle over 7 miles.  Did a few weights then off to work.   This is my last week at a job I've been at for the last 12 yrs.  But, I'm looking forward to something new and feel it's a better company. New adventures!

Took the day off and boy was it nice.  Went to the gym early and ran 8 miles.  Went home and got a few things done and then went back into the gym to do a yoga class.  Love days like this!!!

Six miles on the treadmill.  Tried to make it a progressive run.  Actually ran under an 8 min mile.  Haven't done that in a VERY LONG time.  I'm just slowly trying to get back into some type of training program.

Just 6 easy miles.  When I got to the gym I saw Deborah and said hi really quick. Then I went down by where Marlin and I usually run. There was an open TM.  When I started running it made a load noise so I thought there was no way I was going to run on it.  So, I go back down by Deborah.  She made a comment about why I hadn't started running next to her.  Had to tell her it was because I was going to run slow (because I did the tempo run the day before) and she was running faster than I planned on running.  Nice little chuckle we had. 

I started a new job and they have a gym there!  Today was the first day I went after work. Loved it!  I was able to do alittle more cardo and some weights.  Very nice!
