Short-Term Running Goals:

It's been a challenging year so far since Boston 2011.  When I got home from Boston my world changed when I found out I had some pretty severe food allergies. Since being tested I have been focused on building my health back up which has been a long slow process. What a difference it's made and I feel extremely blessed. For years I knew something was wrong and it's amazing to finally know that food can actually be a persons medicine to live a healthy life. 

Long-Term Running Goals:

I'm hoping to start building more miles when I can and be injury free.  Maybe one of these days I'll be fast. Just for now I'm just very happy to be running.

Personal:

Happily married to Marlin Ordway. We've got 4 grown children between the two of us.  It's been fun watching them go through life - making mistakes and picking themselves back up.  I love seeming them happy and succeeding.

Had the day off today so I was able to run in the morning before leaving with Marlin to go up to his fishing hole.   Heading up past Salmon for the weekend.  Should be interesting.

Ran 6 miles up in the mountains.  Nice nice run. Ran along the river. Beautiful. Felt good to get 6 miles in.

Ran 8 miles after work today. Hadn't planned on doing 8 when I started.  But, was glad to get the extra 1-2 miles.  It was alittle warm when I started and had cooled off by the time I was done.

Got started alittle later than I'd planned, but that was alright. Just did 6 miles today.  I'm liking the cooler weather. Overall was happy with my pace. Tried to throw in a few fartleks. Overall good run.

Great run around the river today. Loved the rain. Very happy with my pace. It was great seeing 5-6 other people out no stopping because of some rain.  Good day.

I got myself to do a half-marathon this weekend - City of Trees.  Marlin had been training for the full and I knew I did not want to do that. It drove him nuts but I didn't decide to do the half until we were in Boise and he was picking up his packet. Even then I debated on what to do. He and I ran the San Diego Rock & Roll marathon and I completely blew that one!  So, I've been pretty hesitant about running any races.  I'd been pretty frustrated and since SD I just wanted to run and that was it.  I needed to regroup. But, we went to Boise for him to do the City of Trees and after some soul searching I decided to sign up for the half. I just wanted to be able to say I did it.

The half started out one hour later than the full and my biggest concern was it was going to be warm.  When it comes to running races I usually over hydrate by drinking to much.  But, I decided whatever happens happens. When it started I found some people I decided to pace with and once I was comfortable I decided to pick it up and move ahead.  I met a few people along the course with made it fun.   Once we got around mile 8 & 9 I was pretty happy with how I felt and knew I'd want to pick it up more towards the end.  I saw a couple of people I knew I wanted to pass up before it was over.  The last couple of miles I picked it up and was able to pass them.  There was a women I thought might be in my age group so I knew I wanted to get in front of her.  The last mile or so I saw that I might be able to get under 2 hrs which would be great for me because I hadn't been able to do that in other races. 

When I finished the announcer said 2 hours and some seconds. But, when I looked at the posting it showed 2:01. When we talked to them they said not all the chips had recorded at the start of the race.   Marlin and I were talking and we realized that I had actually started my watch before I'd crossed the start line.  So, we calculated where we both had started in the beginning of our races and how long it took to cross the start line.  We had started out at about the same place so we figured it was 13 seconds if we went off his watch. So, I'd have actually been under 2 hrs.  If any of that makes sense we figured my time was 1 hr 59 min & 57 seconds.

What a gorgeous day!  Ran after work.  Started at Freeman Park.  Did a couple of laps and then went down by the river.  Overall it was a good run.  Not to tired.  Tried to maintain a good pace. Kept it around a 9 min mile.

Walked around 1.25 miles at lunch today.  Felt so good to get outside. Counting it as 1/2 mile for the total for the day. 

Ran after work around the river 7 miles.  Loving the weather!  Overall, felt pretty good and was glad to be outside.

Walked at lunch again today.  The usual route around the neigborhood at work.

Didn't feel the greatest today.  Almost decided not to run.  But, once I was outside and driving I decided to do a couple of laps around the river.  I knew I'd just take it easy.  Didn't have a ton of energy but was pretty happy with the pace I kept considering not feeling to good.  Did manage to run 6 miles with the 1.25 walk at lunch.

Nice morning to run.  Went into the river early.  Didn't quite know how far I'd go when I started out. Quite a few people out which surprised me.  On my last lap I got caught up in a run/race. There wasn't a ton of runners & they were all women so I'm not sure who they were with.  I was glad to get a long run in to finish up the week.   Might be headed up to the cabin to get it closed up so I wanted a good run in just in case.

Went to church this morning and then for a run.  I forgot my watch so I think I did between 6 & 6.5 miles.  Pretty good day.  Not to hot and not to cold.   Hoping the week goes well.   Taking it easy today.  But, getting quite a bit done around the house.

Woke up pretty early today - 4am.  Went to work by 5 to get off at 1:30pm. Went and ran down by the river.  Was alittle tired and it was alittle warm.  Took it easy doing my laps around the river.  When I had just finished my sister pulled up. She was running 1 lap so I went with her.  It was fun running with her and just talked sister stuff. When we were finished I saw that I had just .40 more miles to make it an even 9 miles so off I go to finish it.

I had also walked 1.25 miles on lunch just to get outside an enjoy the weather. Loving the weather!

Had time just for a short run today.  Had to help Marlin pick up a rental car after work and then had a hair appointment later.  So, just had time for a short run.  The nice part was I ran into my sister when I was starting out so we ran together.  That doesn't happen to often.  Lots of fun!   Walked 1.20 miles over lunch.  Counting as .25.

Ran into my sister again as I was getting ready to run.  We took off by the falls and went over to Snake River Landing.  After running over there alittle while we ran back and she had to  go back to work.  I kept  going and went over to Freeman Park.  By the time I got back it was 8 & half miles.   Need to stretch - my hips alittle sore.    Marlins out of town the next few days so I'm hoping to get some good miles in.

I was alittle tired today after work. But, didn't want to miss running.  Took off by Best Western at the river and went north to go into Freeman Park.  Ran over there for a few loops and went back over to the main section of the greenbelt that most people do.  Went back down to Broadway and finished back where I started. I think I was tired because it was hectic at work and computer systems not working like they should.  Nothening like having quota's to meet and getting kicked off the network.  I walked a lunch which was nice getting outside. Probably walked alittle over a mile.

Braved the wind outside today.  It actually wasn't that bad.  Just a few spots around the river were pretty windy.   Overall not to bad.  I did see a few other runners out also.  Kinda interesting they were all women. : )   Not a bad day.  Overall I've been happy with my pace.

Went to the gym for the first time since I want to say spring.  I don't remember the last time I was there.  Kinda different running on a TM.  Felt pretty good after the first 1 1/2 miles.   Was glad to get over 8 done.  I liked being able to do other things after running.   Still want to get a few runs outside still.   Pretty good day.

Went to the gym today and ran on the TM.  It hasn't been to bad going to the gym because I've been able stretch better and get situps & some weights in also.  Been quite awhile since I've done that! Just kinda strange running onthe TM.  8 miles.

Walked 1.25 miles at lunch but not counting it towards my mileage. Just got out during lunch to move around.

What a great day today outside.  Ran around the river and Freeman Park for 7.5 miles.  Ran into my sister Kelly the last mile.  When I finished she continued to finish off her run.  Lots of chatting.   May take tomorrow off...just thinking about it.  Want a good run Sat morning.  7.5miles.

Walked at lunch again for 1.25 miles.

Did the same run as yesterday because I didn't have my watch. Loving the weather! Amazing to see people out in t-shirts and shorts the end of Oct. Work was stressful being the end of the month. Was glad when the day was done.  Ran 7.5 miles around the greenbelt & freeman park.  Did not walk at lunch today.
