Short-Term Running Goals:

It's been a challenging year so far since Boston 2011.  When I got home from Boston my world changed when I found out I had some pretty severe food allergies. Since being tested I have been focused on building my health back up which has been a long slow process. What a difference it's made and I feel extremely blessed. For years I knew something was wrong and it's amazing to finally know that food can actually be a persons medicine to live a healthy life.

Long-Term Running Goals:

"You have to wonder at times what you're doing out there. Over the years, I've given myself a thousand reasons to keep running, but it always comes back to where it started. It comes down to self-satisfaction and a sense of achievement."
- Steve Prefontaine

I'm hoping to start building more miles when I can and be injury free.  Maybe one of these days I'll be fast. Just for now I'm just very happy to be running.

Personal:

Happily married to Marlin Ordway. We've got 4 grown children between the two of us.  It's been fun watching them go through life - making mistakes and picking themselves back up.  I love seeming them happy and succeeding.

Tempo run at the gym.  Pretty happy 9 miles - 6 miles right around 8:30 pace.  Feels good to change up the pace again.

Just went into town and ran around the river.  Felt pretty good.  Better than I thought I would.  I've been trying to make sure and eat before I run.   Sure does make a difference.

On the way home I stopped to get the oil changed in my car.  It was close to my sisters work at the bank so I ran to go see her while they did my car.  I was pretty bummed the bank wasn't open!  I thought banks opened at 9am, not 10am. Oh well, at least I got another little jog in.

Tomorrow I'm taking my mom to see her sister in Boise.  I love going over there!  My daughter's bought a house recently so it's so much fun going to see her and be a happy little home owner.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Oh my I had a long run today.  I couldn't find time over the weekend to run because I took my mom over to Boise to see her sister who's in a nursing home.  Between getting together with friends, seeing and hanging out with my daughter and seeing her sister I couldn't fit it in.  It's always so hectic when we go over there.

So today I had to get a long run in.  The plan was to run really easy and just do 2 hours.   I ended up doing more like 2 1/2 hours.  I wanted to get to 16 miles.  I thought if I can't do it now I can't do it for Ogden.  I was glad I felt pretty good overall for the run.  But, I do have to say I was pretty tired at the end.

At my lunch I made sure and did some core work and stretch.

Went to the gym today to get a speed workout in.  I was alittle tired, but not to bad.  Did a couple of miles around a 9 min pace then did 4 x 800's at a 8:13 & 8:00 min pace.  Finish off with just over 6 miles so I went ahead and finished with 7.  Ran a few min's more than I planned.

Went into town to run today.  Started out at Best Western then ran north to go into Freeman Park.  Tried to do a tempo run, but was alittle hard since there's a few hills and things over there.  I've really been second guessing myself and running Ogden.  I'm not as fast as I was before.  And, it's been forever since I ran a marathon.  Just hoping it's a fun time and going to do what I can do.

What a race.  Marlin and I took our camper down to stay in. That in itself was an experience.  It was fun being down by finish line.  I was glad we could just walk up to the buses. Happy we didn't take the first buses because it was wet from the start.  Once we got up there we found a firepit to hang out at.  Everyone one was pretty quite.  I think just trying to stay dry and warm.  I've never seen so many garbage bags and ponches in one spot!  I had dressed in layers and when it was time to go to the start I made a last minute decision to take off my long sleeve shirt.  I looked around to see how everyone else was dressed and knew it was a gamble.  But, I am someone that overheats so thought maybe, just maybe I'd be ok.  I was hoping that it'd quit raining and had alot of hope there would be some kind of sun or break in the clouds.

I was actually really happy with my pace when I was running. Anywhere between a 8:00 - 8:40 pace. But, knew I was blowing it at the aid stations.  For the first half I felt alright.  But, I felt that my pace started to go all over the place. Mentally I couldn't focus like I normally can.  At mile 17 I finally had to stop at the aid station to regroup.  I had been having a difficult time opening my gu's for awhile by then and was just so wet from the rain.  After using the PP I thought I might be ok and finish at an ok time.  I had expected more downhill the last 6 miles so I was disappointed.  I still felt alright at mile 20 and knew I had an hour to go 6 miles.  I still had hope to make it under 4 hours.  I had wished to be further along, but, thought I could maybe pull it off.  At mile 22 I started to really get sore and tired.  There's always those people that can feel rain coming in their bones.  Well, I sure did feel sore and cold to the bone.  I've never experienced something like that before and it kept getting worse, very fast.  I had felt it during the race but didn't pay much attention to it.  At mile 24 I was so ready to be done.  I kept thinking about advice I always give my kids.  And, kept thinking 'just want to make them proud'.  The race was really for them at the end.  I last mile or so I was pretty dissapointed because I could see Boston wasn't going to happen.  I had no energy or momention to try and pick it up.  But, it's ok.  I finished.  At the finish line there was Marlin (like always) with my stuff.  I was go glad he was there because I was sore!  My hips had had enough.  I just needed to get warm.  We went back to the camper and turned on the heat.  I was so glad to start to feel like a normal person again.

With such horrible conditions everyone did amazingly great!!!  This was my first marathon since Boston last year and I think I'd rather have the heat than be so wet and cold.

Took the last couple of days off from running.  Went into town to the greenbelt to run around the river.  Was glad to be able to have a normal run.  Legs were alittle tight still. But, felt ok and good to be moving.

Now I get to work around the house and hopefully get things done outside.  So nice to see the sun and good weather.

I'm going to be more consistance with logging my runs.

Went to the greenbelt to run for an hour before taking my parents up to Island Park.  Lo and behold I ran into Kathy Hart.  I haven't seen her since she's run Boston.  We just always run into each other around the river or at the gym.  But, I just hadn't seen her.  It as great to talk to her.  We're going to go try and run hills together.  Other than that it as a normal run today. Didn't run yesterday because I worked.    Now off to the cabin!
